Workers Compensation Claims Team Manager

Job Summary

The Claims Team Manager leads a team of internal claims representatives reporting and overseeing workers’ compensation insurance claims within a fast-paced PEO, ASO and brokerage environment. You will oversee day-to-day claims operations, ensure timely and accurate claims processing, and function as a key liaison between client business owners, injured workers, internal HR/legal teams, and external carrier partners and TPA’s. The role will also be assigned and manage an inventory of litigated claims to oversee and manage closely with senior department leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of claims representatives and coordinators, setting clear performance, productivity, and quality metrics.
  • Workers’ Compensation Oversight: Oversee the lifecycle of workers' compensation claims, ensuring prompt reporting, aggressive case management, appropriate reserving, strategic return-to-work and involving internal HR when appropriate.
  • Claim Reviews and Client Meetings: Will be responsible for scheduling/attending claim reviews, client meetings and/or training which may be in person or via a Teams meeting.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as an escalation point for complex or disputed claims, guiding client companies and worksite employees through the claims and recovery process.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain deep knowledge of multi-state workers' compensation laws, OSHA regulations, and insurance guidelines to ensure full departmental and legal compliance.
  • Carrier & Broker Coordination: Partner closely with our brokerage team, third-party administrators (TPAs), insurance carriers, and legal counsel to strategize on litigated files, settlement authority and key dates related to workers’ compensation renewals and unit statistical filing dates.
  • Data & Trend Analysis: Monitor claims data, loss runs, and departmental reporting to identify workplace injury trends, recommend risk mitigation strategies, and present metrics to executive leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field or equivalent related industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive claims management experience, with a strong emphasis on workers’ compensation; prior PEO or staffing industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing and motivating professional teams to achieve high performance and accuracy standards.
  • Technical Knowledge: Thorough understanding of insurance principles, medical-only and indemnity claims handling, reserve setting, and state-specific workers' comp statutes.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal, written, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills when dealing with distressed or litigious claimants.
